If any of you would like to sponsor me doing this on June 17th, I have just registered and there is a special page on the Cancer Research UK site for anyone to do so directly.

I guess most people know about the Race for Life, but I'll tell you what my view is on it.

It started quite a few years ago, and Tesco promotes it a lot. It is particularly aimed at raising both awareness of and money for research into Breast Cancer. The actual races are held throughout the UK, and only women enter it. It's not competitive, and many women simply walk it. It's more a show of solidarity against a horrific disease, and many wear a label on their back to show why they are running. Lots of these stories are incredibly emotional, as you can imagine.

In common with most people, I expect, I know various people of varying ages, who have fought cancer in one form or another, and some have lost that struggle. I particularly do this race (this wil be my 3rd time, although first in Falkirk) in memory of a very brave lady who was a colleague of mine in a school in Hemel Hempstead. She fought cancer twice in 2 years, and even returned to work for a year - but decided that the third time was too much.

This is a way of keeping all these people alive in our memories, while raising money to help people in the future.

    My fund raising page is....

    my sponsor page

    Thanks for reading this.

Thanks, Strongy! That's very much appreciated.

Cancer's still a big killer, but the research has helped a lot of people live longer and fight - so it has to be worth while.

    Thanks everyone!! [IMG] [IMG]

It's amazing how many people have been closely affected by cancer - just goes to show how common a disease it still is, and how much more research is needed.

It's not until June, so, as I said, I'll be doing a fair bit of training between now and then :D

Glad to support such a good cause. I lost my mum to cancer a few years ago, she fought a hard and brave battle. I usually do the race for life but I won't be doing it this year so I am wishing you good luck and well done [IMG]

Thanks very much, both Dalbuie and Marley. I really appreciate it. I wanted to PM you, D, but found I couldn't.
