The problem I have is with the rain we have had the last few days, my lupins are all lying flat ..... going to stake them back up to see if that makes a difference.

But what i really wanted to know is .... summer pots I have planted up are also now flat .... litteraly like someone has sat on them.

I have a huge pot out the front and that has "mimulas" in. Everyone who passes the house comments on how lovely it looked. But now even that is lying flat.

I have checked all the stalkes etc and nothing appears broken but they are lying flat. Instead of standing tall, they are lying lifeless looking and lying all drapped over the edges of the pots, with a big bare patch in the middle (like someones sat on them).

What I dont know (being newbie gardener) is will they just spring back up in a day or two, or do i need to do anything? or are they ruined?

    Thanks for your replies.

How long do you think plants take to regain their structure etc ? Mind you, I heard we are in for a rain storm again tonight :(

We had bad rain previous years but i've never seen my tubs go like this before. They went from looking absolutly fantastic to total rubbish in a few hours, just purely with the heavy rain :(

Its been about a week since they all droopped. They havent started to look any better, but then its rained every day since !

I am glad its not just me then !!

Being new, I just dont know whether my tubs etc are ruined now or whether to leave them sitting all rubbish looking in the hope they will spring back to life ..... all though they do look awful at the mo.

Saying that, in a couple of weeks we will be praying for rain again most probably lol

Just a tip. In this kind of weather it is critical to get the tubs off the ground on bricks and the like (anything that raises them off the ground)- and ensure drainage holes are unblocked.

The plants will recover from bashing from rain, but not if the containers they are in are waterlogged.

I have raised a few of the pots to check, but I dont think they are waterlogged, as no water has since drained out.

I think the wind and the heavy rain has destroyed them. I havent seen rain come down that fast or heavy in some time ... well not in summer months anyway!!

Am gonna see if I can get any photos to show as its very hard to say what they look like.

Sam, your pictures are of small plants and I am sure they will recover.

However when tall plants are knocked down, its worth getting them upright again fairly quickly. If you don't the ends of the plants will start to grow vertically, and then when you straighten the plant out you have a dog leg in the stem.

    Thanks PeterS.

My lupins also got battered by the rain but I have straightened these back up and staked them for now until they grow stronger.

I just didnt realise rain could cause so much damage and havoc to a garden ... you always hear people commenting on how lovely it is when it rains and how good it is for the garden!!

I just cant wait till the weather improves now so I can see if my pots will all improve or not, but as its rained every single day for maybe 2 weeks now, im not holding my breath

What an awful thing to happen :(

I have managed about half an hour out in the garden today and now its just starting to rain again!!!!

Every year I have the last 2 weeks of June as holiday from work. Every year the weather is sunny and hot.

This is the first time since I can remember that the weather has been so poor for June
