I have a small 3*1m raised bed. it is filled with top soil and earth and i grow herbs, lettuce, beans and onions.

I am about to build a second one next to it, of identical dimensions.

In general i want to do cuttings, flower growing on and seed tray work.

Do i fill it differently for flower growing, seeds etc and potting on. ??

    Thanks for any help

Good quality fibreous loam is required what ever the task I think.

For cuttings in winter 'hardwood' types make a deep V shape and fill with soild and sharpe sand mix for good drainage and water in. Dont add fertilizer or it'll be too rich for the new roots. Summer soft wood cuttings I think best done in pots for better control.

    Growing flowers no problems.

Sowing seeds - make a shallow drill and fill with seed compost. sow seed and top with more seed compost. This makes sure that the seed is in contact with the growing medium and away they will grow.

Potting on should be done with a good commercial potting compost. Dont use soil for putting in pots. If you mean to transplant seedlings into nursery rows direct into the soil then OK.
