    Hello,

I'm wishing to put some raised garden beds in by the fence. I've found this video which kind of demonstrates the idea I had in mind:

I plan on digging down 6-12 inches then building the beds about 18 inches high. Distance between the posts is about 6 feet and I'll extend them out about 2 foot hopefully.

Could this be a terrible idea to attach a bed to the fence? Could it compromise the structure of the fence? I'll hopefully bind some kind of membrane around the wood on the inside of the bed to protect the wood which will hopefully help.

The garden does slope a little, not dramatically so. Should I aim to keep a flat bed or keep it parallel with the fence?

Does anyone have any good plans for robust raised beds? Or any other videos of similar beds built into fences.

    Thanks in advance!

    Rick

Personally i wouldn't do it on to a wood fence you would be replacing it in a few years time, Using gravel boards to get the height of the beds would be a better way.

        Hi,

Agree with Marin, keep it detached from any part of the fence.

You are talking about a total bed depth of 24 to 30", that seems very deep ?
What are you looking to grow , prize veg or flowers ?

What is your current soil like, a building site or just old grass / overgrown etc ?

If the soil is half decent I would just turn it over and add compost etc on top of that and just use some edging to suit, gravel boards, sleepers or even log roll.

          Thanks for the advice!

It's the first bed i'm building so just looking for advice. The soil is quite poor and easily waterlogged why I was hoping to get some elevation. I was hoping to plant some veggies and see how things go. An experiment of sorts!

Perhaps i'll not attach to the fence!

This is the progress so far:

I've managed to secure the frame without attaching to the fence. Next stage is to put some weed proof liner in the bottom and then fill it up with soil and to get planting!

              What do we think?
