Why can't I grow these pesky things . I have tried on at least 4 occasions. Twice in the border and twice in pots. They grow till the first true leaves then shrivel up and die! I have planted them soaked and unsoaked, Nothing!!!! Help

Hi Annej, I can't help, only reassure you that you're not on your own - we tried these this year and had the same problem! :(
I'm sure someone will be able to tell us what we're doing wrong.
    Regards, Beki x

I'm not totally sure but don't these plants like boggy soil?
If so maybe that's what your problem is.

They grew fine in my garden and flowered beautifully until the slugs and snails ate them all, and I mean ALL, just a few stumps remained!!!

Hi all. A lot of peeps think the ranunculus family are all weeds. The creeping buttercup is certainly not welcome any where that I know of. Many would wish that the slugs would eat the lot.

Still, HOdigger is quite correct. They were originally from water meadows and love it boggy.

    So this year?

Well I don't know what type mine were but they certainly weren't weeds! they had enormous dense dusky pink flowers, they were fab!
