I spent most of yesterday planting out my Leeks, dropping them into holes about 6 inches deep. About 1/2 hour after I was finished the heavens opened and we had torrential rain for about the next 12 hours. The upshot of this is that the holes have collapsed inwards and so I might as well have just planted the Leeks deep in the 1st place. Will the leeks be OK or do I have to redo them? PLEASE say they will be alright because we are talking in the region of 200 odd and I'm not sure I could face having to fiddle with them all over again.

Oh thank you JWK the air had been tinged slightly blue around here with the thought of replanting the lot.

I water mine in anyway (maybe you did that too?) which washes quite a lot of soil back into the holes. By harvest-time the holes have filled up, and I have always assumed that:

Watering in got soil around the roots

Not filling in the holes saved time

The soil that washed into the holes was "soft" so easy for the Leek to expand into (compared to making a planting hole with, say, a pencil)

But that's just my thoughts, never researched it!!
