ok, atm i am heartbroken :( i glossed round the cupboards in our bedroom (2 big built in wardrobe thingys) 3 COATS and when it came to removing the masking tape from the edge of the carpet, it ripped off great big chunks of the new paint! it just peeled like a great big bit of rubber! the paint underneath looks like nothing went on top of it!

i must admit i was lazy and hadnt rubbed it down first, but then i never do and i've never had this trouble!! :flag: bloody Homebase paint! I'm off back up there tomorrow (only cos i have vouchers) and i'll buy some new (dulux or crown) paint and some undercoat. hubby has promised to help me (sand it all down) and he reckons we can get it all done next week. pah! i'll believe it when i see it! :skp:

Unlucky. I've found the same thing with both Homebase and B&Q own brand paint. Its a false economy because it just doesn't stay put.

And always buy the best paint too.
In my early years of DIY I thought that the cheapest was the best...:doh:not true! "You get what you pay for"

I think the problem was not removing the masking tape between coats. But if only the top coat has come away then I am wrong, unless you left the masking tape on for too long esp if it was two top coats.

Not sure of the colour of your paint but assume the language was blue.

the underpaint was blue as well as the language, i was trying to cover it up lol no, i didnt remove the masking tape between coats. i think i'll just pull the damn carpet back when i paint if possible.

hubby has just spent about an hour peeling off the homebase paint. its weird stuff. it comes off in big strips, its rubbery/plasticy and it sticks to itself like buggery! he's made a ball out of the stuff :lollol:

    Was it water based?
Always give the old paint a rub down with 120grit paper, and if you want to go overboadrd, wash it down with sugar soap before the rub down and dust off.

The other thing you could have done which has been said before, remove the tape before the paint is dry.
