Recently we have been having 3 major areas of issue with GC, below I will outline our problems and how we will fix them.

    Timeouts
We have decided to relocated to cloud hosting, its much more costly than our current server but the added stability of cloud hosting will help us in the long run.

    Overuse of Resources
While xenforo is light on resources, the amount of traffic GC has can sometimes use too many resources.,To solve this we will be upgrading to the latest Xenforo which uses fewer resources. we also will be replacing plugins with core features which will reduce overhead.

    Problems with IE (internet explorer)
The above upgrade also introduces several changes that help IE users, by using a more browser friendly post editor (currently only does not work on a very old version of dolphin for android)

The Server upgrade to cloud hosting will have next to no downtime, my own migrations had DNS working within 15 minutes.

We're going to begin on the smallest cloud package and throughout the first few days gradually monitor and adjust the server resources till its large enough to support GC without timeout.

So at first speed stability wont be at its best as we will be working with the cloud hosts to see what resources we need and adjust accordingly.

The changes will be rolled out over the next few days.

Currently we have no more precise timeline than that.

Hello, just to add while you're doing that work, I view this forum through tapatalk app for the iPhone. Every time I login it tells me the API for this forum has expired and to contact the administrator. Not sure how vital that is...

Excellent summary of plans RR, many thanks. I hope it all goes smoothly. If you need any help with testing Beta or anysuch I'm happy to help.

May be irrelevant, or already known, but it has seemed to me that GC has performed well after a re-start and then tailed off a week or so later. That may be the use of resources you refer to (and perhaps garbage-collect leakage, currently, or garbage collection that is allowing fragmentation). if so you are in good hands! Windows exhibits all those bad behaviours for me too!

yes indeed, we are looking into the add-ons i have a hunch some of them are not storing data correctly or running "long" processes

one of the benefits of 1.2 is it stores "less important" processes for quiet times.

We only have our own code to worry about in our applications, gawd knows how we would get on if we allowed any-old-3rd-party-code to make database access. Most database access code I see has no thought whatsoever to optimisation of the query - it runs fine in a small test rig, and never gets tested at real world data/throughput levels. We know what we are doing and even so optimisation gives us some head-scratching now and again, so my instinct is that you are right to focus on Xeno's home-grown code for close to 100% of your functionality.
