Recently chopped trees at my local golf course

    Yesterday we noticed two trees between the 17th and 18th fairways had been cut down by the local council. Looking at the stumps with my wholly-inexpert eyes it looks like the trees weren't well. What are your thoughts, resident tree experts?

    Not an expert, but I would guess the trees were actually dead.;)
