    Hi there all!

My name is Carly and I am a new member, the reason for joining is that I know with certainty, that I will be seeking constant advise over the coming years, of your gardening expertise.

I am about to undertake a huge project and a move over to France (Lower Normandy) to establish a smallholding of which I plan to live at after a year or so,once the place is habitable and the land suitable to sustain us.
I have never grown organically before and anxious about what is set out in front of me and trust that you lovely chaps and chapesses will guide me through my times of need (total panic stricken desperation).
We are planning to use Sutton seeds for our ordering if anyone has feedback on them? So, please to post and join, get in touch if you like anytime, Carly

Hi Carly. Welcome to GC. There is a little known rule on GC about people who live in Normandy. You have to send other members regular supplies of butter, camembert and calvados. :D

Keep us informed about how you get on with your move. I would love to move to Normandy or Provence but my probation officer won't let me.

Hi Carly and welcome to GC. Some of us are more than a spotofbother at times, not mentioning any names. [IMG]

I certainly cannot assist you with your smallholding requirements as that is not my thing ... only plants for this region and the odd one or two fruit trees.

I started from scratch, a very bare canvas, but planted shrubs and trees already established. I have not used Sutton's but I do know that Chiltern Seeds is excellent with their European service and highly recommend them.

Again, welcome and enjoy ... there are a lot of folk here ready to help. [IMG]

    [IMG] Hi Carly
Wow I think you are very brave in your adventure......I wish you lots of luck.
You will need to know your soil type and check with neighbours as to what grows well and not so well.........then trial and error......not to much error I hope. :D

Hi! Carly and welcome to the forum. I would say this is the best forum bar none on the whole internet!

I would love to hear from you about your experiences when moving over there. Where were you domiciled in GB?

My Son and I are going to investigate doing that same thing - He is 42 and just recovered from a long multiple illness and I am over seventy and just recovering from several operations on nose and knees and teeth! Love to hear your experiences Eleagnus7

Hi Carly as you can see we are indeed a very friendly lot and also a little bit nosy at times or is that just me?

Anyway I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to know how you get along with your house, garden and lifestock over the channel.

Here's hoping that your French adventure brings you many years of happiness without too many pitfalls.Good luck! [IMG]

Thank you all so much for your well-wishing! I will of course keep updating in our progress, be seeking your advise along route and will hopefully have my own experiences to help others by. Eleagnus7 I am sorry to hear of your troubles and I will keep you posted! John, the cow is order though it will be a while before I practice the art in gainig food from her, as for the calvados, fruit wine or cider do? Anyhoo, must dash, see you online soon, thanks for your comments and already I have some little tit-bits follow up, so for the meantime take care all!

Carly, why do you want to move from sunny Jamaica, to frigid France? [IMG] [IMG] :D
