Hopefully, you will have seen the thread that I posted a short time ago, containing a link to our Recipes sub-forum.

As I explained on that thread, I was wondering if we could give recipe sharing, and home cooking in general a bit of a boost, not least as I know we have some very talented home cooks here.

Many of us grow our own produce, and use it in our kitchens be it at harvest time, or preserved for later; most of us hate waste, but sometimes might be stuck for a recipe to use up those left overs; and I am pretty sure that most of us find ourselves looking for inspiration in one form or another at some point in time. Money is ever-tightening for many of us too, so surely the time is now for us to make the most of our Recipes sub-forum.

The purpose of this thread, is to allow us to discuss further ideas that may increase our use of the Recipes area, and also other ways that we can get more enjoyment out of cooking, eating and drinking.

So, what do you think ladies and gents?

I will kick off with some suggestions:

      Recipe of the month:
We could have a thread each month where we post recipes that we have made in that month, at the end of which we could have a vote similar to the photo competition to nominate the best one, and then highlight that recipe for the following month by way of a forum notice declaring the winner and containing a link to the winning recipe.

      Phoodie-Photies:
An addition to the photography threads and competitions (which it would be nice to see those also get increased entries!), we could have thread(s) where we post pictures of our food and drink achievements.

      Haynes Manual of Home Cooking:
An 'instructable' - threads with expanded recipes complete with pictures, diagrams and detailed descriptions to help those who may be at the start of their cooking journey.

I would put up a photo of what Mr Kandy cooked for yesterday’s and today’s dinner but as he isn’t a member it might not be allowed :snorky:

I can assure you it would be allowed @Kandy - you are a member, therefore by extension Mr Kandy is part of the family :) (although we would of course also welcome him as a member in his own right too!)

I don't mind posting some of my recipes but not sure I shall have time to do some of the other things. I rarely take photos of food as I'm too busy eating it directly after I've cooked it. :snorky:

Any and all contributions would be great @shiney :) - I would just love it to become something that helps all of us enjoy cooking more, and to perhaps help others cook more quick and healthy meals rather than going for processed food.

                A thought.
As food is such a large subject it may make things easier to have sub-headings such as:-

                Starters
                Soups
                Cold Starters
                Hot Starters

                Fish

                Main Courses
                Veggie
                Poultry
                Beef
                Lamb
                Pork

                Desserts
                Hot
                Cold

                Salads
                Hot
                Cold

                Cakes and Pastries

                Chutneys and Pickles

                Special Diets:- Gluten/Dairy/Sugar Free

There are certainly other headings that could be used but can't think of them at the moment.

@Fat Controller I rarely use any processed foods and if I do, can't think of any, it is minimal. Apart from being healthier I think it also works out a lot cheaper.

I suppose some of the things that I use are processed. Tinned tomatoes, tinned coconut milk, tinned chick peas etc. :noidea: Any that I might use are with no added salt or sugar.

I don't think we will be able to sub-divide the Recipes section any further, but maybe a sticky thread on each of these headings?

Good idea for a sub forum. I hope that it will be easy to find.

One point that came to mind. There are a few of us that live out of the UK, and things can be a lot different. For example, this...

                      IMG_3703.JPG

would be considered a starter here, but I doubt it would be in the UK. So where would that be placed? :dunno:

One other thing. I've been looking for a particular recipe over the past few days. Although theres quite a few on the net, I'm not sure which the one I am looking for is. Could there be such a section?

882D0BD4-AE51-4197-8058-48D3DB9B4DE7.jpeg Yesterday and today we had stew and dumplings made with casserole beef although in the past it was always called Braising steak.

The meat had all the fat taken off of it and cut up into small pieces than added to the slow cooker with some gravy liquid he made up and then to this was added onions, carrots, parsnip, peas, and spuds all home grown and the only shop bought items were mushrooms and the flour and suet for the dumplings. He added some mixed herbs, salt and pepper. All this was done under my supervision and he made a good job of it and as it was done in the slow cooker was cheap on the electricity:snorky:

@Sandy Ground I would be more likely to call that a fish dish :heehee:

Request for help could come under the main heading. :blue thumb: What are you looking for? Is it likely to be known over here?

Its an English, or should I say scottish recipe originally. The one for what we used to call Dundee Cakes. The ones that were really chocolate bottomed biscuits not cakes. There are several online ones, but none of them seem correct to me.

Champion - I am in the midst of cooking dinner at the minute, after which I will go and create the relevant sticky threads for each category; what about adding an 'International Recipes' thread where we can share international recipes that don't necessarily fit anywhere else? And maybe a 'Requests/Teach Me' thread where people can ask for a particular recipe?
