    Hi All,

Although I appreciate it can be difficult to tell from photos, does anyone know if the below are likely to be weeds? Thought I would check before digging them out.

    Thanks

    1. Is not a weed.
It is an autumn flowering Japanese Anemone...full of flower buds.
    2. Maybe Geranium.

        Pull it up.
If it grows again -- it´s a weed.

        NO!
That is not at all helpful to someone seeking our help.

I credit Ricky with a sense of humour and the intelligence to see that I am joking.
It is a well known witticism in gardening circles, and an observation recognised by most of us.
Feel free to have a different opinion, try not to shout.

I use both as ground cover plants in my garden @Ricky187, they reduce my need to weed, not sure what your hardy geranium is but a lot of those can be used for this purpose. :)

          Sorry .
My humour is obviously on a very different wave band to yours.

With only 12 previous posts I do not feel I know Ricky or his gardening knowledge/skills well enough to know what he might do with your advice...or if he thinks it is funny.

It's not a question of intelligence, but simply one of knowledge of a subject and ignorance of it. If a person doesn't know better then they will take your statement seriously and may remove valuable/appealing plants for no reason! :nonofinger: The Japanese Anemone may reappear because many regrow from a small root fragment, but they may not be so lucky with the geranium.

              Silver surfer,
I see your good intention, which shines a little brighter than my somewhat chancy wit.
              Warmest greetings,
              Giri.

Pull up every plant in your own garden and see how many of them grow again

This is getting bizarre. Not my humour!
JR.....You obviously don't grow anything very special.

Such as Dickinsonia antarctica..the tree ferns.
You can pay anything from £30.00 - £300.00 upwards, depending on the height of the trunk.
Pull those up and all you will be left with is a small hole!

So your suggestion is best avoided by true plant lovers.

                  "Dicksonia antarctica." - Recherche Google

Maybe your garden is just full of weeds by removing them then yes you are correct, more seeds will grow and the garden will again be full of weeds.

I'm never quite sure why those cost so much... is it simply a question of them taking an awfully long time to get to that size?

Sadly to cold here for me to grow one.
Used to grow a few dwarf ones in old garden in Wales

                    Yes...they grow incredibly slowly.
Originally they were brought from New Zealand into UK as ballast in the hull of the ships.

Now they probably micro propagate them.
Then they just look like any other fern.
Eden Project sell babies for £16.95 with no trunk.

Dicksonia Antarctica 2L | Eden Project Shop

It is later they develop the trunks. getting slowly taller.

Trevenna Cross say..."We have a wide range of different sizes available – priced at £45 per foot of trunk, up to 5ft sized trunks, and £50 per foot for the really big ones, over 5ft. Don’t forget the measurement also includes the ‘hidden’ trunk within the pot/beneath the ground so a 4ft trunk tree fern won’t be 4ft of ‘visible trunk’ – but nearer 3ft of visible trunk."
