I have a rose (penny lane) that has never performed particularly well where it is. It's in a smallish hole in the patio (60x60cm, slab size) against an east facing wall. The soil is good and I've tried every thing from manure and fertilizer to chopping it down to re-grow but it just doesn't want to hit it's stride.
I've decided to move it to somewhere else but that leaves me with what to replace it with. I was thinking of a climber to make use of the wires that are in place, so could anyone suggest some evergreen and fragrant climbers to me? Of course if anyone has a spare they want to shift... ;)

    Edmund Hillary?

Sorry, couldn't resist. What about a nice honeysuckle? Or Jasmine is nice. I suspect the standard answer would be one of the clematises.

A nice Clematis Armandii would suit that position Loofah

Trachelospermum (Rhyncospermum now?) jasminoides (white flowered) or asiaticum (yellow flowered). Evergreen and leaves can take on a good red colour in winter, small but fragrant flowers.

I suspect Edmund would be a little wiffy rather than fragrant by now, Clue!

Will have a quick look at the suggestions :)
