I have planted a photinia red robin and would need two plants to go either side of it. I plan to grow them to about 1.5-2m tall but i need something fast growing, I dont have 10 years to wait and it must be evergreen.

Can anyone recommend anything that would look nice along side the photinia, flowering not essential.

    Many thanks

I don't know much I'm afraid but I am very keen on camellias at the moment. they are evergreen, easy to grow (assuming you have acid soil) and you can get a decent sized one for a good price (near me there are some which are taller than me (5ft6) for about £30) and they have gorgeous flowers, sometimes scented. worth looking into.

Well there are several types of Ceonothus & they do have a pretty blue flower..
Acuba Japonicas- Spotted Laurals. Very fast growing & also several different ones..
Or one of the Elaeagnus varieties..
    One of the Pittosporums..
Or how about even Laurus nobilis - Sweet Bay..

 And that is all I can think of..

Not much is going to get to 2m quickly Snapshot, but laurel would fit the bill.

I planted a type of holly in my old garden to fill a spot and it was very fast growing, putting on a good 18" to 2ft a year!!, it hit 7-8ft in 3 years from a 2ft plant.

I can't remember which variety it was but it was quite dense and had very large dark green almost spineless leaves and purple stems, it was also a male variety.

I have this really nice Shrub book. In the back there is a graft index, listing heights, bloom time, zone time, sun or shade time etc. Found it always valuable when finding a new shrub. And there are pictures too.
