Recommendations for a flowering cherry

I am going to plant some trees in my garden next year, and want to have at least one flowering cherry. The problem is, which one???

I grew up with the big double pink ones, and am not keen, so single flowered recommendations please. I have lots of room, so size not an issue. Not keen on weeping ones either.

So what is your favourite cherry Tree, and why?

I would go for Prunus serrula, it has white flowers, but, most importantly, beautiful, peeling, bark.

 

My favourite is Kanzan but it's a double pink. Have you considered Crab Apples too?

I had forgotten mine! Agree with Farley it's a real elegant beauty & flowers before lots of others. Mine is usually here at the beginning of March.
