Hi, our very old petrol strimmer has just died so need to buy a new one so any recommendations please? We have a large garden and it will get a lot of use so we need something pretty heavy duty. We already have a brush cutter and chainsaw so don't need a multi function device, just need a strimmer and ideally no more than £150 max. Thanks very much

    what is your brush cutter?
You will be looking at the light stuff from Stihl for that sort of price like the fs40.
What type of work is this going to be doing?

It's a Ryobi one. We use the strimmer for grass around our orchard and garden, it's pretty big so will work quite hard. We use the brush cutter for more robust stuff.

150 is pushing it for a grass strimmer to be honest for heavy work.
If it’s just light use for normal tasks than Stihl and others do some but for heavy work you going to have to up the price but it’s safe to say the better Stihl brushchutters are way better than the Ryobi you use.
For just edging the cheaper Stihls will work fine but anything heavy like cutting back long grass in a large area you will be looking at the clearing saws with cow horns and a harness.
I would pop in to a local dealership like a husky or Stihl that are local and look at their range.

Thanks for this Liz, we're sorted now thank you. We've got a MTD one which seems to do the job well.
