My knowledge of modern varieties of Roses is zero! I only grow shrub Roses and a couple of climbers which do fine up here in Scotland. I do not grow hybrid teas or floribundas. A friend has asked me to recommend to her a good yellow climber. The 1 I know is Golden Showers which I believe is a fairly old variety? Perhaps there is a more modern improvement? I was surprised that when I was looking to buy a white climber a few years back and was advised to get Iceberg (doing very well here). I'd have thought that the breeders would have superseded this old variety but evidently not or maybe the person I asked was equally out of touch! Hope someone can either say yes to Golden Showers or suggest something better. The Rose will be growing up here in Scotland if that makes a difference and our soil is pretty acid but the grower is good about feeding her plants where necessary. Thanks.

I would say Golden Showers is the best, especially in Scotland.
There us also " Mermaid" which is a single flowered rose and looks stunning when in full flower.
A semi -double is " Leverkusen" which could be good for your friend as it's supposed to do well on exposed sites or in the colder parts of the country.

Thank you both for all your help @wiseowl and @Anthony Rogers. I have emailed my friend with your suggestions....that should keep her busy looking at them all on the net. Hope you got your Bugbane "twitawooooo" If not just pop over and I'll give you some of mine. Merely the odd 1000 mile round trip:heehee:.
