After a few quiet years here, I have enjoyed red admirals again. They are quite my favourite butterfly.

Nice one Fran - they are best excuse for planting some clumps of Michaelmas Daisy. They also adore Ivy when it flowers.

yes i love them too but dont see many around here and with just having a balcony they are not wanting to flutter up to mine when they have the choice of some stunning gardens nearby, anyway i can admire yours lovely pictures.

Stick some tatty old asters in a pot rosa. Red Admirals find 'em irresistable as do a lot of other species. :D

Is it me or are Red Admirals making a come back. I haven't seen one for years even though we had a garden designed to tempt them in. This is the first year I've seen any at all for a long time and they are quite a favourite of mine. Perhaps it's because we have moved south?

Plenty of them about up here so I don't think it's to do with location. Possibly has more to do with being in a rural environment with plenty of hedgerows. Common sightings for me this year have been red admirals, tortoiseshells, peacocks, painted ladys, the usual whites, ringlets and meadow browns. I've also seen the common blue and a small copper.

Yes there are lots of red admirals in my garden and the ivy flowers are full of them. Its the warm weather that has made the difference. Their wings are undamaged and fresh with no sign of bird damage. That means that they are freshly hatched and developed from the caterpillar stage. By rights they should all be dead or hibernating by now.
