please help I have recently moved into a house with a lawn about 8mtrs x 9 mtrs and have found two saucer sized areas that are infested with red ants. I tried treating it with normal ant powder but it doesnt kill all of them. I have read that boiling water would kill the grass. The area that they are inhabiting is affecting the grass and i am trying get a perfect lawn. I dug out one of the areas yesterday and found about 10 large eggs. please help.

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner Golfjunky.

I'm not an expert, but if these ants are already affecting the grass, wouldn't it be easier to just bite the bullet and use hot water anyway, then re-seed after. :)

Hmm, you could ditch the attitude with only your 2nd posting...

Stick an upturned plant pot over it for a day then remove it and let the birds eat them all. Grass will be fine.

Sorry no one jumped to your help immediately.

Perhaps its because we didn't want much to do with wiping out an entire colony purely for asthetic reasons.

May I suggest you find a forum that doesn't care about either nature or attitude.

Calm down everyone, peace be upon you!!!...it sounds like we've all got ants in our pants.:heehee:
If you didn't get a reply straight away, golfjunky, there are reasons for that. Members work, not all members are on GC every day, some won't answer because they think they don't know, and some like me missed your post.:dunno: Usually digging into the nests to expose them and then treating them with Ant powder will kill the ants, try that..... that's if you're still with us:snork:
