A lady on the allotment has given me a jar of red currant jelly. Other than lamb (is it lamb?) I don't know what goes with it or what to do with it. Can I have some suggestions please? How long should it keep, it is sealed properly. TIA

Well seeled well it will keep for a couple of years in a cool dark place. The fridge if nowhere else.. once opened its life is much like any jam or jelly..

We serve it with Lamb, Venison or Pork. It also goes very well with veg too..

Thank you @Marley Farley. Think I'll have to give venison a go with it, was a bit scared to open and try it just in case it went off with in a week or so.

You could go all continental, and have it with baked Camembert and French bread....

Very common here to use it as a filling for cakes both small and large.

Edit: @Linz As others on here are mentioning meats such as lamb, venison pork, are you asking for redcurrants or lingonberries? They both look similar, but only the latter is normally used with meats here.

Thanks all, still haven't opened it yet but I'm liking the cheese ideas

Sandy, it's made from red currants not lingonberries. Speaking of lingonberries, the drink Ikea do is lurrvly!

@Linz in that case use it in desserts...cakes, trifles, things like that. If you had access to fresh berries, I could give you a killer recipe...:)

Ooh I like the cake/trifle idea better than the cheese one actually

I only have blackcurrant/strawberries/raspberries on my plot and I picked most of them yesterday to make cordial. I do have strawberries, raspberries and blackberries at home though.

All of those are eminently suitable for flavouring vodka...:Wino:

Locally grown strawberries are a must here when its the annual midsummer celebrations. As is imitating frogs...only at Midsummer though!
