Red flowered mystery

    Can anyone help me out with what this is? Looks very spectacular when flowered, but a pain in the butt the rest of the time. :scratch:

    Hi Hockeynut Could be Crocosmia (Lucifer) but better wait until another of our friends come along,my identification tecnique leaves a lot to be desired:dh::)

    You can provide some supports so it doesn't flop all over the place like it's doing.

    I think it's probably 'Lucifer' too, Wiseoldowl. It's doing well - I'm jealous. My crocosmias (the orangey-yellow 'George Davison' variety) have been a bit of a let down this year - lots of brown leaves, despite all my watering, and only a few miserable flower spikes. :(

    Agree Crocosmia 'Lucifer' - have a similar clump which is just going over (as well as falling over). I have a number of varieties which need to be watered regularly to avoid going brown and not flowering which has also happened to one of the group.

    The not flowering probably signifies over crowding - next Spring, when they first shoots emerge, dig up the whole clump and divide it.
