Hi I would be grateful for some advice as to why my 2 Kniphofia (Red hot poker) plants have not flowered for the third year running. The green spikes look healthy but they just do not flower and appear to go to seed instead of flowering. Thank you in advance

Mine didn't flower last year, but as I had cut them down heavily I thought that was the problem
Maybe they need dug up and split?
Certainly mine have been in situ for more years than I can remember

Hello, alnham, and welcome to GC.

I have three large clumps here which are completely neglected under a tree and never watered. I have hit and miss luck with them. This year two had three flowers each and the third had none.

I had them in Bucks and they bloomed every year there with lots of flowers.

whis4ey, do you mean you cut the leaves? I cut the flower stalks off and take off dead leaves but that's all.

I have noticed that a garden where I live has beautiful red hot pokers in full flower one year but sadly the following year the display is quite bad.
Is it normal for them to flower good one year and not the next?
