Mr Kandy and myself went for a drive the other afternoon and came across these Red Kites up near Fineshade Woods, where a few were released a few years ago and have now started breeding.A visitor centre has now been set up with cameras and TV screens so that families can watch the progress of these magnificant birds.

This Buzzard flew over our house yesterday. There is normally a pair of them but today only a single bird came over.Years ago we would have had to travel to mid Wales to see the Kites and well out into the countryside to see the Buzzards, but now thanks to less persecution and the reintroduction of the Red Kites,it is nice to see them practically on our door step

    Fantastic shots KF!

I am very envious that you have such good access to Red Kites! I have never seen one in the wild and to see a pair circling so close overhead must have been thrilling. Great photos. And so encouraging Red Kites are doing so well again.

We are very pleased that we get lots of Buzzard activity right on our doorstep here in Devon. We often hear a pair calling while we are sitting in the garden and a trip up the A38 towards Exeter usually rewards us with a few sightings of either flying or perched buzzards.

Thanks for brightening up a very dull wet afternoon Kandy!

Well done Candy, only ever seen one in Hampshire, once Dorset had the highest population of Buzzards but now they have increased nearly everywhere. They have nearly all recovered from the pesticide poisoning although I have read that the Kestrel is declining slightly.

Thanks everyone for your kind words [IMG]

When the wether improves we are going to go back up there as it isn't that far from where we live but this time we will take the tripod to try and get some better shots. We were on our way back home so wasn't prepared to see them.

These were the best two photos that I managed to take of them as they circled overhead. There is a proper visitor centre there now with cameras and screens set up so that families can watch the family grow from egg right through to the chicks leaving the nest. How  is that.

I did some Googling and it is reckoned that from 80 pair last year they managed to raise over 100 chicks,so it looks like they willeventually spread right across the country, fingers crossed. [IMG]
