I've been growing white Alisa Craig alonside Red Baron for several years now. This has been best ever for the white (Like bigger than Jaffa orange size), but as per every year - not too successful with red. So, bear in mind - same plot, identical conditions, etc.

Any suggestions, including alternative varieties of reds?

Robinsons Mammoth Red grown from seed perhaps?

I've always found red onions grown from sets either bolt, are a disappointing size, or both.

i was late in starting my onion seeds this year so opted for sets instead

my red barons ended up the size of a golf ball

I usually get a decent sized red onion from seed. I'll try and find a pic..

I've been recommended Robinsons recently, so this sounds the one to go with!
I always grow from seed - and sounds like we had same results, craig.
