    Hi all :)

What a treat to see these male and female redpolls feeding alongside the gold finches.

Thank you for the pics of the Red Polls, Pip.
I've never seen them, but I did have a party of Goldfinches in the garden the other day. I was thrilled to see them as I don't get them too often.

Those are super Pip. I've only seen red polls in our garden once and that was 3 years ago.

Being completely ignorant I was expecting to see a picture of a herd of these guys tramping your beloved plants !

The birds look lovely. We seem to have same-old same-old in our garden - although we do have quite a few.

    Thanks Alice,Dave,Jazmine and Woo

LOL Kristen, first time I have seen them in my garden(not the cows) and they are coming in at least 3 times a day. Been rather lucky this winter as I have had a blackcap as well as regular visits from a goldcrest. :)

I don't know anything about birds (and am not particularly excited about them, compared to my other interests), and like any newbie I just want the best, in my garden, NOW!

But it does seem that we don't get much "choice".

I got a large feeder for Xmas (several dangling mesh contains of nuts, a coconut fat ball, that type of thing) and its just outside my office window (I work from home). We are right out in the country, the feeder is in a garden surrounded by trees and hedges, but in a large open area (so I would assume non threatening to wildlife)

All I have seen are some Blue Tits and a Robin. We have plenty of (tame!) Pheasants around here of course - they go into the Chicken's coup to nick their feed. And Green Woodpeckers and Magpies (and pigeons and the other main vermin) ... but nothing "unusual" as far as I know

    Hi Pip

What lovely pictures! I've never seen redpolls before. I'd settle for a few goldfinches. They're around - they perch on nearby aerials to sing - but I can't tempt them into the garden. Meanwhile the sparrows have eaten half of my expensive nyger seed and chucked the other half all over the garden. Looks like I'll have a forest of thistles for the new gardening season.

You are lucky to have Redpolls in your garden pip, I have only seen them once with Siskins at a nature reserve.

Indeed I am Strongy :yahoo: I have a friend who is an avid twitcher and when my wife told him about them he seemed to nod approvingly but didn't seem convinced. I promptly e mailed him the pics, mainly to show him that I wasn't wrong in my identification.

The weather has warmed significantly and I haven't seen them for days, just glad my feeder station was spotted by them and they chose to use it during the cold snap.

I hope to see some when we visit Blashford Lakes again in February as that is where I saw them before.

[size=medium]Thanks for the great photos. I don't get Redpolls in my garden and wish I did. I keep an eye out for any new varieties of birds that arrive - and also those that have stopped appearing. I haven't seen a chaffinch in the area for a long time although there was a time when they were common. I live only seconds away from the "countryside". I have Robins, Tits of various sorts, Collared Doves, Jays, Ravens, and the occasional Whitethroats. It's obvious your garden is good for attracting the birds.
