redstalk red flower spike unknown - Bulgaria

    hallo,

    this thing can grow to 8 feet and gets cut down in winter - i think it comes back the following year but am not sure. so it may be aperennial or it may not.

    situation: 20km from shores of black sea, bulgaria

    any ideas?

    It's a Ricinus communis, castor oil plant. :gnthb:

    Hello karaman.

    I agree with shiney that it is a Ricinus communis, commonly called the Castor Oil Plant.

    It is a perennial and go back to the ground in the winter returning in the Spring. They are wild here and even grow on the beaches, but like many plants they are poisonous.

    It depends on how cold the winters are where you are.. in Britain it would die in winter... somewhere frost free it would survive!

    They are quite easy from seed!
