Removing Cutting Blade from Lawnmower, nut problem.

    Can someone tell me if I want to remove blade I have undo the retaining nut anti clockwise or clockwise?

    On my mower, i have a retaining bolt which to undo it, it's anti clockwise, but that looking at it from the bottom ie mower upside down

    I would expect it to undo the opposite way to the direction of rotation of the blades - i.e. when the blades are spinning the net effect is to tighten the nut, rather than loosen it which would have embarrassing consequences!

    If you can see a bit of thread, poking out of the nut, that would give you a clue too.

    There is a nut on a Wessex helicopter that holds the rotor head on, it is torqued to about 400 ft / lbs (if I remember correctly) they call it the Jesus nut. If it comes undone. . . . .:heehee:

    Mine was anti-clockwise, as is standard for most threads. (right-tight, left loose and all that). I'd guess they're not all like that thought.

    I had a right job getting mine undone to get the blade off. I had to use brute force and ignorance. Lots off hopping about and grunting noises before it finally dislodged.

    Probably needs a good soak in WD40 or similar.
    Not done this myself but guessing it would be a left hand thread, if its on the bottom of the blade.
    But it can be confusing and as Kristen said, take a close look at the thread if you can see any of it.
