Seems like we should be planning for an imminent major disruption. At first I thought this article was scaremongering, but one sentence stood out to me....

“We were close enough in 2008 (if the bank bailout hadn't worked),” he said. “and what's coming is on 20 times that scale”.

    Here is the whole article...

It's all scaremongering as Sheal has said.
If we're in for a crash why is the London Stock Market rising ?

Quote: "The People's Bank of China finally takes action." They slashed interest rates by a 1/4 of 1% ten hours ago.

OK - I heed your posts and this is reassuring. Just wanted some feedback since this is not an area I am familiar with. Thanks.

Yes many seem to think so WeeTam. The ones that prepare for it are apparently called preppers and I am in contact with some of them. Whilst I am in great admiration of them, I am too fucused on the present (perhaps to my detriment). Never been a planner.

To your list I would add that the most crucial access is having clean water. We die quicker from lack of water than lack of food.

Well, the fact that the Chinese Stock Market is sliding isn't really connected to the crash of our Stock Markets The Chinese Stock Market is run by the Chinese Government and is not interlinked with the world markets and the biggest losers are the mainly ordinary Chinese private investors who were encouraged to buy shares/stock by their government and all that initial buying forced over evaluation of the stocks.
Our Stock Markets have crashed because they looked at the slide in a Stock Market not even connected to them, somehow linked it to the slowing down of the Chinese economy [standing at 7% growth...ours is a 2.7% forecast:dunno:] and think DOOM, PANIC, PANIC............nothing in our Stock Markets reactions and decisions are logical and as they say all the values of Stocks and Shares are "in the mind", it's a perceived value and that can change on a rumour or because someone is manipulating the markets for a quick buck.

Is this a Stock market crash or Armageddon? :)

I don't see this as preparation Rosebay but panic buying, which also causes chaos for everyone else that tries to be sensible as nothing is left on the shelves for people to buy.

It's neither really, Sheal. The European Markets slid and have recovered somewhat, while the American markets recovered slightly but have panicked again somewhat and have dipped a bit again. America is financially connected to China in that at the moment they are in debt to China to the sum of $1270.3 Billion dollars. Oil is low because the Arab Producers see the American fracking for gas as undermining their energy markets and so are over producing and the oil/gas on the ships waiting out at sea are being bought and rebought without the ships even going into port!!

Whilst I agree with you, the ones I am referring to, that are called preppers, are not out there panic buying. They have been planning this for years and are now well stocked up.
