    Hi

I have 4 large clematis in rootbound medium sized pots.

When would be the best time to repot them?

    i'm in Yorkshire.

    Thanks

February, or just before the leaf buds start growing, whichever is first :)

Well, the less you pull on the stems the better, so if you can, lay them on their sides, check there aren't any roots through the drainage holes, run a long carving knife round between the rootball and the pot and then gently tip the pot so the rootballs slide out onto a sheet of plastic. An old compost bag opened out is ideal. Then you can gather up the sheet and slide the rootball into it's new pot without too much disturbance :)
