My Calathea Beauty Star, a relatively small Calathea, is currently in a 7" pot. I think it's pretty much reached it's max size and i would have thought that pot would have done it for life.

Yet today I noticed a root coming out of the bottom, if left there will probably be more to follow in time.

What is the general consensus on repotting. I think this small compact Calathea would look a little odd in a larger pot. Is it even regular practice to trim these bottom roots off, or must you repot as soon as the roots start showing underneath a pot?

Its probably found some moisture in the pebbles under the pot.
Just because a root comes out a drainage hole it doesn't mean you have to repot the plant.

Thanks, lol. My beauty star is one of my better looking calatheas, it's positively thriving. Others are doing well but need a few "tweaks" to look as good as that one.

It's very rewarding when you finally find out what a plant really likes, and they stop sulking at you and actually get on with growing, lol.
