    Hi,
I've got about a dozen large pots on the balcony. They were used to grow onions, shallots, tomatoes, garlic and chiles. The tomatoes this year were a disaster (bottom rot), but the rest of the crops were divine, so I'm getting ready to plant this year's (or next year's!) garlic.

The question is: can I reuse the same compost, or do I need to put fresh stuff in?

    Thanks.

You need fresh, all the nutrients have been used by this years crop, success or not.

Helps to give a liquid feed every couple of weeks during the season if growing in pots too :)

Don't throw the old compost away though. Use it as a mulch or top dressing in your garden.
