    hello iv`e got a rhoderdendren in a big pot in our back yard and i`d like to plant her in the ground in allotment.will i upset her by doing so? she`s been in same pot for about 3yr and seems content(she`s a beauty)i`m in 2 mind`s but it`s down to space really(small yard, lots of animals, kids,lost a bit of her this summer cos they`re all mad).

    Rhododendrons are shallow rooted so as long as you donot plant too deeply then they do not mind moving. (Water in well with Rain water, obviously) The only problem I can see, is if the allotment has been limed over the years as many of them are. This could and would be more of a problem for your Rhododendron than moving it.

    Hi Elainefiz,
    I had the same problem. I moved two large rhododendrons out of half barrels and they are giving me as good a show each year as the two I still have in barrels.
    I dug a big hole and filled it with ericacous compost, dropped the whole rootball in level with surface and filled it up with more ericacous,firmed it well and fed during the season with Rhododendron food. At the moment they are both covered with lovely large buds for springtime.
