    Hi
Whats going to happen if i put Rhododendron and Azaleae in clay..?

it's well dug over with plenty of compost from the heap and sand.

should i dig a big hole and fill with ericaceous compost or will this not help much in the long run..?

or sink in a big pot..?

I'd love them to be in the ground and be happy..!

    Cheers
    Jim

clay can be acid or alkaline, more often acid, if so, the rhoddies and azaleas will be ok, assuming average sunshine and rainfall, also the clay should be reasonably free draining.
i understand that rhoddies are not ideally grown in pots, so make sure you loosen the roots as you take them out, , i usually use some compost to help them get away, and fork around the planting area to allow roots to spread out

I garden on clay - and find Rhodies will do OK, but need ericacious compost on planting and then a regular feed with miracid until established

    Cheers

I'll pop them in, give them some acid and hope for the best.

    Thanks again
