Rhubarb leaves

    can you put rhubard leaves in compost heap, have heard they may be poisonois

    Hi Bill
    Yes you can put them on the compost heap - they are only poisonous if you eat them - toxins break down in the composting process.

    Hello Bill.
    You could always put the Rhubarb leaves in boiling water and simmer for about half an hour, then use a vegetable masher to break up leaves. Strain off liquid, allow to cool then bottle. Use 50 ml to 1 ltr and water over plants to help keep slugs at bay. The remains of leaves are of course added to compost heap.Worth trying as an organic slug destroyer. Do not use aluminium saucepans or containers.
