Hi folks. I have several rhubarb plants which were given to me by a neighbour about two months ago. They were from a well established rhubarb patch in his garden that he was paving over. Most of them are still quite small but they look very healthy. My question is: do I cut them back and if so when?

I know that you are not supposed to eat rhubarb the first year of planting but I don't know the reasons behind this and I don't know whether this applies to re-sited plants or only to brand new plants. I hope this query makes sense! I can supply pics if the size of the plant makes a difference.

No, as they were planted late in the season, leave them be. Make sure you keep the soil moist and let the crowns establish themselves.:gnthb::old:
