Ribwort Plantain

    Ribwort plantain (Plantago lanceolata) Not a gardener's friend but I'm sure wildflower can find lot's of uses for this cure all!

    This plantain what frogsque has put up here very nice it is too..is used in the same way as plantago major...which can be made into a tea for diarrhoea..bronchititis..sinusitis..and hayfever...you can use it externally for wounds..bruises,,shingles..and varicose ulcers..you can even eat the leaves...the seeds can also be used as a laxative...seing this picture made me laugh as i bought a plantago major a red one to put in my flower border and it nearly took over the garden..as i didnt harvest the seeds ..they went everywhere..and i was over run..but the red variety does look nice as a big leafy plant!!I think all of mine has gone now...allthough i have some small ones like in this photo which creep in the lawn ..If you used your imagination the plantago major looks as nice as a hosta!!
