I just soak them for a few hours then put them in a bag of soil and into a warm spot (airing cupboard) until they germinate (seems to be 2 days to 2 weeks for all to do so). The warm moist soil really gets them going and as they seem to resent root disturbance I pot on to a large 9am pot. They do not need hot temps after germinating.

Mine have gone straight into 9cm pots as last year I pricked them out (so to speak) and they were under way so quickly it was touch and go whether I had caught them in time.

This year they have done nothing :( (They are indoors, so about 20C )

A couple of mine have appeared after a week or so in the warm with the boiler (soaked for 24 hours beforehand) - I think Im using old cottage cheese tubs for those at the moment, for no better reason than I had some handy & they dont take up too much space.

Just tipped out a pot to see what mine are up to. Nothing :( Soil nicely moist, bean in good shape, but not chitted or anything yet. Sown on 01-Apr

I didn't soak mine last year and they germinated OK. I've only just sown mine (without pre-soaking) straight into a pot in a hot room (around 22-25degC), I'm expecting them to germinate by the weekend and out-grow the greenhouse by late April :)

I didn't pre soak mine last year either and they germinated fine, only sowed yesterday in the greenhouse so no sign yet but if the weather gets as warm as its predicted for the weekend fingers crossed.

I will move the tray to the conservatory on hot days to see if that will hurry them up.

I've sown mine, around 2 weeks ago ( iirc!) not soaked, directly into pots outside against the house wall which gets sun for 5 hours or so.

Hi Al-n , they are frost sensitive, the frost will kill the young plant , or if you are lucky they will start to grow at the end on May , can you not start them indoor and move the young one out in may???
