I think I killed my hanging basket seeds!!! I put 5 different rows of seeds in one tray and some started to come through but a few fews haven't, I bought a clear lid thinking this would help and some more have come through but there are still loads that haven't.

The reason I think I have killed them is that some of them that have peeped through the surface have now developed furry white beards!!!

    Should I just start again!

'furry white beards'!! some seeds germinate with their root hairs showing before they turn downwards into the compost and can resemble fungus. Without pics I could not tell you whether it is fungus or not, hope it isn't or you may lose them all. As a preventative, water seed tray prior to sowing with Cheshunt Compound fungicide.

I posted the same about some stocks I had recently sown, I left them for a week and all the little white beards have disappeared and they are doing great, so I assume the root hairs which Strongy has mentioned. Leave them a few days to see what happens. You may want to prop the lid open slightly with something for a few hours a day to get some air in. Diferent varieties of seed will have different germination time some start coming through after a few days other takes three weeks so you may just need to be patient with some of them [IMG]
