The great man has gone. If heaven exists they'll be wondering what the hell has hit them!

    RIP Ken Dodd

He was always good value for money, (if you liked him) his stage shows often over-running. We saw him in the eighties and that show over-ran by an hour.

He did the "right thing" (finally) by marrying his long-term partner, two days before he died.

Some of these entertainers don't always make adequate provision for those in such circumstances, sometimes.

Always thought he was one of the funniest, he never paced around the stage shouting abuse and swearing with every second word.
He just appeared to be a naturally funny person.

            Thanks for that link :)
I think he is the last of the legends of my generation to go :frown:
The seventies might have had dodgy shoes, clothes, haircuts.... And fabulous wallpaper and carpets ( and memories:wub2:)
But, the comedians where funny then weren't they??
3 generations sat around the ' Sunday Tea Table' enjoying the same program, all laughing and having fun. At least, they did in my home. Sorry, feeling all nostalgic

I read that by marrying his partner two days before his death, he did the taxman out of 40% of his estimated £7M, in inheritance tax which would have to be paid if he had not done so.

                Can't blame him can you?

As I said on the other Ken Dodd thread :) I saw him in August last year having watched him several times since the 60s.

He used to keep going till 1 or 2am but last year he was showing his age, as he finished prompt at midnight! He started at 7pm - not bad for a 90 year old giving it his all, singing and rapid fire jokes. I don't know any modern performer of any age who could keep going like that.

By the way Ken's Funeral is next Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and most of Saturday ...

I'm not sure that happens anymore, but I agree, lots of things in those days actually crossed the generation gap, Doddy being one of them.
