Rise of the Conkers :)

    Last autumn I collected around 100 conkers to try and germinate (I donate the saplings to local schools & parks if they want them); I put them in a bucket of old compost and popped them under our guinea pig hutch for the winter. Last year I got about 40% germination so you can imagine my shock when I emptied the bucket this afternoon to find nearly every one germinated, around 98% germination :hate-shocked::dancy::snork:

    Subsequently I've potted up around 30 to grow on and put an advert on our local freecycle page for germinated conkers :biggrin:

      Never thought of donating them :dbgrtmb: we have 2 horse chestnut trees with preservation orders in our garden and this time of year I find seedlings everywhere!!!!!!! from squirrel nutkins autumn plantings :)
