Yesterday was a beautiful day so we threw off gardening gloves and took a walk down to the river. It was the first time we'd managed to get down to it since late Autumn. The walk along the bank was very muddy in places - usually the places where there were steep drops! We saw three roe deer, lots of water fowl and heard a woodpecker.

The reed beds are massive and extend for miles on the north bank

Jenny -it's the north bank of the River Tay, about 10 miles upstream from the North Sea and Dundee. The river is very wide here but the reed beds make getting close to it almost impossible. The reeds were until recently harvested for thatching but the RSPB now manages the reed beds. Our house in the village is on a hill above the river and we look out on it every morning. It's only a 15 minute walk away but we just don't do it often enough!
