Anyone else troubled by Robins attacking windows? One has just started coming to peck at our kitchen window, maybe it can find insects there first thing in the morning (although I doubt it, they are new aluminium windows with no gaps for insects to hide).

He's maybe just seeing himself in the window and thinks it's another robin.

Well, it sounds like the Robin is adopting you and telling you you in his territory!! I love the Robins and the one's in my garden boss my cats around and scold them if they're in his way!

He might be attacking his own reflection. I'd love to see your Robin seeing off the cats Armandii :)

I get blue tits shouting at me if I don't put food out for them, mind you, the Mrs does that too.

She used to love the first snows of winter, she'd run up to the door & start banging on it, shouting "You know the deal....... Let me in."

2 years ago i had a robin that attacked the mirrors on my car. He did this the whole winter and i had bird poo all over the windows and mirrors for months! He was protecting his territory and thought he was fighting off another robin.

I once had a pet seagull that used to call for me at lunch time. I worked in a little fishing village and being a towny at the time, saw no problem with giving my bad chips to the seagulls. One befriended me and would always turn up at dinner time and stand at my feet as I ate my chips. It would calmly take knackered chips out of my hand if I offered them.

One day I was sat at my desk and I heard tap tap tap on the window, the a pause. A few seconds later I heard tap tap tap again. I looked around, and there was my seagull on the outside window ledge. I went out to meet it and offered it a crisp. I then took my lunch break and did the daily trek to the chippy before coming back to the seafront. I didn't have to wait long before my seagull turned up to share my chips. This went on for several months.

They get a bad press seagulls, but mine was patient and polite, and never accidently took my fingers off even once.

I remember once staying in a holiday cottage in Cornwall which was very near to the beach. A seagull visited us every morning for breakfast. He knocked on the back door and then just stood there expectantly while we found him stuff. Mind you, some seem to take a more militant approach. A pair of gulls who were guarding chicks took a dislike to the local vicar and his congregation a while back:-

The Robin has upped his game, today he's flying into the patio doors and having a proper fight with himself.

JWK, My dad befriended a Robin, whenever he was out in the garden the Robin was never far away and would often sit on the handle of his garden fork and seemingly watch him work out there. This went on for a good few years, when my dad died the robin used to come and peck at the lounge window. Almost like he was calling for him. Lovely peaceful birds I really like them. Maybe he is asking you to come out and play!

I have seen a blackbird attack patio doors, it used to jump up and down on the door handle attacking it's reflection, this went on for years and the glass ended up badly scratched! Wasn't my house though :thumb:

:thumb: Yes they are very friendly, if I'm out digging they come right next to the soil I'm turning over looking for food. But are they blind? Often I've picked up a worm and put it in front of their little beak but they don't seem to see it :what:

penny_lane: I don't mind a robin pecking the window. Last year we had crows flying full pelt at the patio doors attacking themslevs, with a loud crash, then half stunned on the ground they were still pecking at their reflection. Now they can do some serious damage with their big beaks, in the end I put up a scarecrow.
