    pete and strongy ...

How clever are you guys with just pods and seeds on my trees?

On Thursday I picked a branchlet and a handful of seedpods for ID from the grocery store parking lot ... just full of beautiful trees.

When we got home I stupidly forgot to take them off the dashboard and when I remembered the branchlet was fried and did not recouperate in water. I have the pods and seeds but it's probably going to be next Thursday before I encounter this tree again.

Want a go or wait ??????

    Thank you, pete ...

As far as the leaves go, and as far as I can remember, there were five or six opposite pairs with one at the end, oval shaped about 4-5cm by 3cm. For the life of me I can't remember this particular tree in bloom but I do remember seeing one with yellow flowers ... could it be one of the Acacias which are so prolific here?

It does look acasiatic, (I made that word up I think).
It looks very similar to my unknown tree that I have been years trying to ID.

    Nice word. [IMG]

We were out and about today but along the coastline and I didn't espy a similar tree and had camera at the ready. Perhaps we'll go through Silves tomorrow so I can photograph it.

Is that blooms or fronds coming on yours? If it has bloomed in the past, then no doubt you'd know what it is. Is it possible yours is Albizia distachya (the Plume Albizia) which has little bottlebrushes on it ???

    This is a Jacaranda frond closeup-ish ...

... and here on the left are Jacaranda seedlings (self seeded) and Albizia julibrissin (with probably a Jacaranda seeding itself in the tray ...

I really can't tell them apart.

Edited to add a photo ... [IMG]

Mine is not jacaranda, I know that.
    This was evergreen.
I'll have to have a look a distachya, its been suggested it might be African.

Oh, pete, I wasn't suggesting it was a Jacaranda, I know you know them ... I don't express myself very clearly at times. [IMG]

I was trying to say Jacarandas/Albizias/Mimosas and such like all look the same to me. [IMG]

    I think A distachya is Australian ...

Just seen these pics (been up to Heathrow again).
Thought we had been here before on this one, It's Acacia Leucocephala, the same as yours Pete, the one with round white flowers. My own seed are exactly the same. They seem to grow like weeds in the Med. [IMG]

I remember this conversation also, strongy, earlier in the year. [IMG]

So, that's perhaps pete sorted out .. what about mine ???

It's started raining here ... hurray, don't have water that which is not on irrigation ... only problem is we've lost the satellite signal (our free one, we don't pay for one) so I miss the second half of X-Factor.

Why do you go to Heathrow, strongy? Collect plants?

Your seed pods and seeds LoL are the same as mine which is Acacia Leucocephala which I thought was Pete's as well.

Been to Heathrow as taxi for our son who has been to Munich for the month on a langauage course, we will do it again in two weeks or so when he is of to Bolivia for 9 months as part of his uni year out. We had hoped he was going to Spain but no, he wants wants to go where he will have to speak it all the time so S America it is. We did go to the Palm Centre the first time when we dropped him off but not this time, no room for any more pots! :(

Thank you for that, strongy. I'll still get a photo to confirm it. I shall also have to look that one up as I don't know it.

Are you saying your son is taking Spanish in Germany? :D I do agree with his theory ... I wish they didn't speak so much English here, but even if they speak to us in English, we respond in Portuguese and usually they revert to their mother tongue with a smile. [IMG]

"As far as the leaves go, and as far as I can remember, there were five or six opposite pairs with one at the end, oval shaped about 4-5cm by 3cm. For the life of me I can't remember this particular tree in bloom but I do remember seeing one with yellow flowers ... "
