Having just said last week on another thread that I fancied a robot vacuum cleaner as our entire house has tiled floors with just a few area rugs, our Aldi has them in on the 15th for just under €150 (£122 give or take). It is a Primo brand (virtually nothing on the net about it). This is my translation of the specs ...

Basically it runs on 14.4V, has a remote control, is intelligent, automatic and silent with sensors for walls and where it has already been. It has a timer and can run for 120 minutes and automatically returns to its home base. The dust deposit holds 350ml. It has two side brushes and one brush to clean and filter. It is 32cm round and 8,7cm high so can go under sofas etc.

Does anyone own one of these creatures (any brand) and what do you think of them?

Thank you in advance for any thoughts, comments and advice.

PS I somehow think they will fly off the shelves ... or find their own way out the door at opening time! :heehee:

Should I manage to get one Mad, I will let you know my opinion as mine will have to deal with three cats (one who sheds non-stop) and my long hair also ... :rolleyespink:

Can they climb over the edges of thick rugs?
Also, I guess you have to tidy up before you let them roam!

Not sure about the rug thing. Tidying up before you let them roam ... :heehee: ... probably ... and that means the cats out of the way ... all three HATE the vacuum (an upright Electrolux Glider) so maybe they will think this will be a moving 'toy' for them and not vacate the house in a nano second ... :cat-kittyandsmiley:

my guess is that it is suitable and worth it for use in large rooms that have few obstacles. I expect it to be able to climb a rug (horizontally - eheh), but little more. If it encounters an obstacle it will move around it.

Sounds great IN THEORY, but given the time you'll probably have to faff about with the wee beastie, plug it in to recharge, park it in its nest, you'd probably get the job done faster with the Electrolux. :phew:

Then there's the cost of replacement batteriesto think about as they don't last for ever and are not cheap even if you can get them.:nonofinger:

A hired cleaning lady might be more efficient in the long run :snork:

Yes but think of the fun you'll have lolling on the sofa just watching it and watching the cats watching it.

You could hire a local lady at minimum wage, an hour a week for two years
Get a better job done, contribute to the local economy, and make a local family happy

Or get great satifaction in kicking the thing as it manouvers around your rugs vacuming the tiles

I would be happy to have a cleaning lady once a week (they cost about €10 an hour here) but no one is keen to come out to my location. :frown: Cleaning ladies don't always drive / have cars and the bus (which stops 300 meters up the lane) is only once an hour.

... besides, it would be a 'fun' Christmas present to ourselves ... :heehee:

Well with the money, you could get something MORE entertaining for yourself and get HIM to do the vacuming :-)

I have two robots for vacuuming: one is 17yo the other 18yo. When they go to Uni, I'll pull out the reserve ....

          ... Mr Mum :heehee:

The dog and the cat do not like the noise ... so I will be employed in keeping them out of the way (far more fun ;) )

I am now having second thoughts due to all the fur/hair that exists. I have to sweep daily and still never get it all.

So am now contemplating a steam cleaning mop ... any thoughts on this item?
