Just saw 2 meteors in quick sucession, wasn't sure of the constelation they were coming from so grabbed Google Skymap & pointed, turned out to be coming from Aquarius, I wouldn't want to know that constelation as is evil wife's starsign.

To those without Google Skymap, its stand facing west, look straight up at the Milky Way, then pan south west a bit.

No major showers due at the moment, but where there are a few, there are usually more, somethings broken up.

Google Skymap will look thru the planet too, you can see the South Pole, if you line that up with the North Star, you can see the angle of tilt we are currently at.

Might stick a pole in the plot to record the angle on the winter solstice, then compare it to the summer solstice. Will be able to annoy Sister with that, she hates things changing:heehee:

It's funny you should say that Ziggy. One day last week I was standing out side my back door having a last smoke before going to kip. It was about 2am and I saw one come down, quite bright aswell. It also seemed quite close. I was looking north west. :)

By 2am, that would be roughly the same area of sky I was looking at at 8pm Sheal, although Aquarius would be lower by then.:)

      Meteorite man Rob

      One of our locals

I was driving home late one night and these things were zooming past and bouncing on the road, Fool I did not stop to pick up the debris, smelt foul in the car (coming from outside not my pants)

The last such thing I saw was about 3 years ago in the Summer when driving to work at around 7.30am on a country road. I saw to the South and to my right a flaming object heading away from me. It was quite large and more than bright enough to stand out in the daylight it seem to move more slowly than a ordinary meteorite but that was probably because it was moving away from me although it was on a downward trajectory. I never found out what it was, although I suspect it might have been some man made debris from an degraded orbit.:D

I've seen 2 slower moving dropping things, which I too assumed was space junk, twisting with flames coming out behind, the first one I saw as I looked up in dispair during an arguement with the girlfriend.

I tried to get her to look, but just got told, "Don't change the subject"

There are over 6,000 satelites up there, not to mention all the dropped tools etc.

No wonder Woo has to wear a hard hat these days.

          Now there's a Job:thumbsup:

You can pick up some meteor fragments quite cheap, but some go for silly money.

Best place to look is at the magnetic South Pole.

          A. Its all white, so makes them easier to spot.

          B. The magnetic field drags them down there, they have found Moon and Mars rocks there too. Captured by Earth's field after being blasted into space by asteroid collisions.

I have a piece of lava covered in gold from Iceland.
And also some ash in a jar, should UK run short of Icelandic ashes when volcanoes erupt.:heehee:

If anybody wants some ashes from Iceland can be arranged...
It comes in a little jar which probably weights ten times the lava itself.:th_redx:

Also you can have a shirt with "Eyjafjallajökull is easy to pronounce", always part of the very little exciting presents from Iceland.

Oh how I love Icelandic ASH
On a Costa Italian cruise, returned to Venice, and no flying, no new passengers to take on board, no way to fly home
            All available accomodation was taken
So COSTA sailed away with us on board for a further week around the Adriatic for free, five star full board as usual, mind at £6.50 a drink my bar bill was err more than the cost of the original cruise

            Back on topic
OUR meteorite man has now been given a mini TV Series on his exploits and over £100k made on pieces of rock

Nice work if you can get it
Bum around, never work in your life, live on benefits, then cash in big time allegedly
