Just had to post this picture - root trainers have done a fantastic job for my sweet peas!

Fantastic. However, I just can't get on with them. And most of mine have broken at the hinge now for no apparent reason.

I wish I could buy tall, thin tube-shaped pots with no hinge.

Waco - if I may ask a stupid question. What is the reason for root training? Are the plants better than ones that have not been root trained, and if so in what way, and does this apply to all plants or just to some such as veg?

I think the idea is that it forces the tap root of the plant lower before it starts to branch, so great for peas and beans - have to say I sis not do very well with the loo role experiment though.
