Root Vegetables in greenhouses

    Just wondering whether anyone has tried to grow root vegetables in their greenhouse before.

    I'm experimenting with some beetroot and carrots also radishes. I also have some outside like usual but i thought i might try this approach this year.:thumb:

    Interesting ... I think I'll try that. I've got some that are being started off in pots, I'll plant half, or maybe the whole of the first batch (sown 1st March), in the greenhouse

    I did baby carrots last year and worked well Kristen.

    Most of the veggies we grow are cool weather plants.
    You will get away with some slightly tender ones like French beans early in the season, but once it warms up, they shoot up, all tops and no crop.

    Tomatoes, chillis, cucumbers etc are fine but the rest suffer with the warmth!

    Further north than Gloucester you may get away with it, but there would be too much heat and strong sunlight here!

    Now a poly tunnel, that's a different matter!

    I closed my greenhouse door for a short period today, when a checked later the temps had shot up to 102F.
