I see special compost for roses and acid loving plants like azalea. Is it worth buying and does it prolong the life of the plants when used in a large pot?

For a Rose we would just use good garden soil or if none, use a John Innes no3 soil based compost.

For Azaleas you must use an Ericaecous compost which is formulated for such Acid loving plants otherwise it will likely grow poorly.
You also need to avoid using lots of tap water which is more alkaline, so using rain water or tap water treaded with an addative for acid loving plants.
