I've not done rose cuttings before this year, but most of mine will be staying on the windowsill covered with a plastic bottle where I can keep an eye on them.

I plan to try to overwinter a few of them outside but with a plastic bottle over the top. Not tried that method before so am experimenting.

I'm sure someone far more knowledgeable than I will be along shortly :)

Good morning Simbarb and all my rose loving friends,I could start off by quoting the official recognized way of taking and winterising your rose cuttings word by word:) but I am not going to,you see I have always followed my own methods based on my past successes and failures(of which there have been many (failures that is) ;) ,as our friends have shown you different ways ,and IMHO they are all OK,I respectfully suggest that I would put my rose cuttings in a greenhouse (Cold) but not in direct sunlight, or on a window ledge, from my past experience rose cuttings tend to depart this world of ours if the temperature falls below -5 degrees,it is a bit of a lottery my friend,I never follow rigid rules for roses,ie some rose growers take cuttings in the spring, others in the Autumn, some put them in pots and others in the garden and cover them up:)If you follow our friends sound advice that you receive at Gardeners corner ,then in a couple of years time you will decide on what,s the best and most successful way for you,and then you will be able to say "this is the way I take cuttings;) and pass that knowledge on to some one else:)Hope this has helped:)
