I have made a new patio thingy (aka 8 pink slabs with a bench on lol) and I'm now looking for plants to decorate around it. I have in my head this vision of a rambling rose at each side, but one is an awkward spot behind a shed, that faces due east and gets the sun only until noon. Would there be such a thing as a rose that would grow there?

Yes, there will be a rose that you can plant there but sorry, I know very little about climbers and ramblers as I haven't grown them. @wiseowl is GC's resident rose expert, I have tagged him for you so he should be along to answer your question soon. :)

I'd like the rose to go as high and far as possible, but it is an exposed situation with a lot of cold wind and snow in winter.

Madam Alfred Carriers is the climber for you my friend. It's hardy, repeat flowering, grows in the dark (almost) and is white. I have two and they're gorgeous! :-D

I do think white would brighten that bit up, will go for that one thanks. I know it's a very pathetic wee patio but most of the garden is grass and easier for the hubby to keep as he's not well. This bit has terrific views over the hills at the back and I'm putting a bench up there next week. :)
